The Mosaic Annual Peace River Clean Up
Volunteers from Mosaic came out to take part in the Annual Mosaic Clean up Peace River initiative. Volunteers come out on a Saturday morning and took canoes down Peace River to pick up garbage from the river. They started at Crews Park in Wauchula picking up garbage for some 5 miles of river until they reached Pioneer Park where they finished their clean up. I can tell you some got dirty and muddy but they were having a good time with family and friends that’s what’s it’s all about. Rivers flow through our towns, provide clean
drinking water, support fish and wildlife, and give us opportunities to fish and paddle, making memories to last a lifetime. Our rivers are vital to our health and happiness.
Volunteering at a river cleanup is a rewarding experience. It’s satisfying knowing that you are playing a role in improving your hometown waters.
Healthy rivers provide drinking water, flood protection, fish and wildlife habitat, recreation opportunities, and economic benefits to local communities. They are a vital part of our heritage and are sources of community identity and pride. In an era of global warming, effective long-term protection for rivers must begin at the headwaters and encompass the entire watershed.
At Pioneer Park they gathered all their garbage which was a large amount they then was met by Diana Youmans who had drinks and food waiting. Diana mentioned that this was Mosaic’s 20th year taking part in the Clean Up Peace River. I look forward to next year’s clean up I’m sure it will be as memorable this one was.
