The Hardee High School Air Force JROTC was at the 39th Annual "Bensen Days Fly In" at Wauchula's Municipal Airport on Thursday afternoon.  The students from the Hardee High School Air Force JROTC are going to learn about flight and the all of the information on what it takes to fly an airplane and this group of Cadets it's there first time ever in an airplane. So this will be a great experience for these students. They were in groups of six with each pilot and after going over some pre-flight information and instructions the students then went in groups of three to board the airplane for flight.
Hardee High School
After boarding the airplane each student will have the opportunity once in the air to take control of the airplane's flight controls. And this is done in the air, the students would change seats in mid flight to take turns at the controls. The pilots for todays flight are Carl Saunders, Hardee County Commissioner Dale Johnson, and Mike Wilkenson. Thanks to these gentlemen donating their time, airplane and experiance with these eager students. During the preflight checks the pilot explained all of the preflight checks what to look for and what to test such as the wings, the tail, propeller (s), fuel and safety procedures. Once this was covered with the students the flight instructors then and only then allowed the students board their airplane. Once back on the ground the next group would board plane. Some students took air bags with them but none had to be used. Once in the air students felt what a negative G and 1 G feels like, they also had a change to read the aircrafts instruments. These students will take home a life time experience on what it takes to fly a plane.
