2012 Relay For Life of Hardee County
"Serving Up A Cure"
The American Cancer Society's Relay For Life of Hardee was a great success. The event was held at the Hardee County Wildcat Stadium in Wauchula, Florida. This year’s Relay For Life is Hardee County 14th year and we have raised over years some $897,000 for research and other programs for the American Cancer Society. This year's goal was to raise $100,000 and we rose over $87,000 and there is still monies coming in. Great Job, Hardee County!
The event started with the Hardee SHS JROTC Color Guard presenting the colors and the singing of the National Anthem by Cleston Sanders followed by the Invocation by pastor Dwaine Willis. Then there was the Survivors Lap after which the 2012 Relay For Life of Hardee officially started. Our Honorary Chair was Doug Jensen of Vandolah Power who could not be their because of recent surgery. Diana Douglas read his touching story.
This year's theme was "Serving Up A Cure" and there was games and entertainment related to the theme such as being blindfolded and guessing what you are eating to food eating contest etc., there was a fashion show where team members were dressed up in newspaper and other items as their gowns, all through the event there was a Mission Moment were someone would read educational helpful information about cancer and cancer research. Each team members were selling food and drinks, a chance drawing, and games at their camp site. Everyone had a good time, many people stayed until the next morning for the auction and there were a lot of great items up for auction which included autograph football helmet, to picnic table to 3day 2night cruise. I think this year’s event was successful because of change of day and time. This year’s event was held on a Friday at 6:00pm till noon Saturday. Special thanks to Denise Benavides and the 2012 committee for their dedication to hard work and detail for this event.
